Audition for A theater in the open production

Theater in the Open is proud to work with actors from the Greater Newburyport area, Boston, Southern New Hampshire, and beyond. Theater in the Open is a non-equity company. You must be 14 yrs or older to audition.


2024 season auditions

We will be holding our 2024 season auditions in Newburyport and Boston this May & June. Please fill out the audition form, linked below, and reach out to info@theaterintheopen.org with any questions.

Newburyport Audition:

2024 Season

A Bold Stroke for a Husband Directed by Frances Hellums - July 20, 21, 27, & 28 at 4:00 pm in Maudslay State Park Newburyport - With additional tour dates coming soon

Twelfth Night Directed by Andrew Codispoti - September 13, 14, & 15 at Rocky Hill Meeting House Amesbury - With additional tour dates coming soon

Poe. - Late September in Newburyport & Salem MA

Maudslay is Haunted - Fall fundraiser! No need to audition, all are welcome, but let us know if you are interested or have questions!

A Christmas Carol Panto! - This winter at the Firehouse! - Additional Panto Auditions will be held in the fall.

Preparation:

  • Those interested in being cast in Bold Stroke for a Husband are asked to prepare their choice of 2 sides from the script. Side selections will be posted online and distributed on the evening of Wednesday, May, 15th. Sides will be provided on the day and actors are welcome to hold sides during the audition.

  • Those interested in being cast in Twelfth Night are asked to prepare 1-2 mins of verse text. 

  • Those who are not interested in Bold Stroke for a Husband or Twelfth Night and who are only interested in being considered for pop-ups and events throughout the year are welcome to prepare any 1-2 minute selection of text. This can be a monologue, poem, or other reading.
